"I thoroughly rate Awakino River Lodge for a break. What acute place. I asked the owner if there was salt and pepper and tea bags to which he replied “yes and more”. What did we find but a whole fully stocked kitchen practically - oils, sauces, herbs, and … a half bottle of rum in the fridge. Oh well. It must be getting old and it seemed a shame not to partner it with the cokes sitting in there too, we thought. Quite a night. We highly recommend it."

"Unexpectedly ended up staying in Awakino at the Post Office when a rock took out the front rim on my bike in the gorge. What a gem of a place, with a lovely interior with some really interesting items on display. Garry the owner went out of his way to accommodate me, offering to run me to nearby Mokau for breakfast and even down to New Plymouth. Allowed me to stay on and entertain myself while I waited for the recovery vehicle from Auckland. Nothing was too much trouble. Service like we have come to miss in these current rush times. If you want somewhere to stay, kick back and relax this will certainly fit the bill (oh and the food at the pub just over the road is great as well). Great place for a wedding, anniversary, or the like."

-

"Great place to host our get-together and though the weather did not play well, even though you said you had arranged good weather it didn’t matter and worked so well for our family group of varying ages. Love that every wall, shelf and book were different and so interesting. Thanks Garry."
